The first year in Southern Utah, honestly

What people who move here wish they had known before the first July.

The heat is the thing nobody quite believes until they live through it. July and August restructure the day: you are outside early, inside in the afternoon, outside again at dusk.

In exchange you get March, October and November, which are close to perfect, and a national park within an hour in three directions.

The other adjustment is water. Landscaping here is a choice with consequences, and the households that xeriscape early are glad they did.
